Strumento
veramente bizzarro progettato dalla Casio nel 1985.
 
Il manico è in gomma, e contiene dei microswitch sensibili
alla pressione delle dita.
Le corde sono tutte dello stesso diametro, e sono in plastica nera.
In pratica colpendo le corde si invia un trigger verso la sezione inviluppo
del sintetizzatore, e in base alla posizione delle dita della mano sinistra
vengono inviate le informazioni sulle frequenze delle note da suonare.
 Questo
sistema non ha ritardi nella generazione del suono tipico di
molti guitar synthesizer con pick-up esafonico. Ovviamenta la tecnica
esecutiva deve essere adattata alla strumento, ma con un po' di pratica
non è difficile ottenere dei buoni risultati, in particolar modo
utilizzando la mano destra pizzicando le corde con le dita senza plettro.
La DG-20 incorpora un sintetizzatore polifonico a 6 voci a distorsione
di fase (PD come il Cz-1000) con 20 preset, batteria elettronica
con 12 ritmi, 4 drums Pads, amplificatore integrato con altoparlante,
e volumi separati per synth/drum.
I preset
forniti con lo strumento purtroppo non sono tutti entusiasmanti, ma
utilizzabili in diversi tipi di situazione musicale. In tutti i casi
la presenza di un'uscita MIDI ben progettata offre la possibilità
di interfacciare la DG-20 con qualsiasi expander, computer o sequencer.
La DG-20 supporta la modalità MIDI Mono Mode, che permette
di assegnare un canale midi differente per corda, dandoci così
la possibilità di avere suoni diversi assegnati alle varie corde
(tipo Split delle tastiere..), utilissimo anche per inserire parti da
editare nel sequencer (ogni corda è su un canale MIDI differente,
per cui diventa piu' facile l'editing nel caso di errori nell'esecuzione).

A very strange instrument designed by Casio in 1985.
The neck is in rubber, and it contains some microswitches sensitive
to the pressure of the fingers.
The strings are all of the same diameter and are made of black plastic.
 
In practice striking the strings sends a trigger toward the envelope
section of the synthesizer, and depending on the position of the fingers
of the left hand information is sent on the frequencies of the notes
to play.
This system doesn't have delays in the generation of the sound
typical of many MIDI guitar synthesizers with a hexaphonic pick-up .
Obviously playing technique must be adapted to the instrument, but with
some practice it is not difficult to get some good results, in particular
using the right hand to play the strings with the fingers without a
plectrum.
The DG-20 incorporates a 6 voice polyphonic synthesizer with phase
distorsion synthesis (PD as in the Cz-1000) with 20 presets, electronic
drums with 12 rhythms, 4 drum Pads, integrated amplifier with loudspeaker
and separate volumes for synth/drum.
The presets furnished with the synth guitar unfortunately are not all
exciting, but usable in different types of musical situation. In all
cases the presence of a well-projected MIDI OUT gives you the chance
to interface the DG-20 with any expander, computer or sequencer.
The DG-20 supports the MIDI Mono Mode, it allows you to assign
a different midi channel to each string, giving the possibility to have
different sounds assigned to the various strings (for example a keyboards
split), useful also to insert parts to edit in the sequencer (every
string is on a different MIDI channel, so editing is easier in the case
of errors in playing).
Fantastic in jam sessions and live situations. For further information
