This programmable 6-voice poly-phonic synthesizer features Korg's new DWGS, the "Digital Waveform Generator System." It has two digital oscillator modules with a selection of eight waveforms each. These waveforms are stored in two 256Kbit ROM chips. Unlike the simple sawtooth and square waves of conventional synthesizers, these waveforms are digitally encoded recordings having complex harmonic structures for realistic sound creation. On the other hand, the VCF and VCA are analog for easy, speedy access. It's the best of both worlds—analog speed and convenience plus distinctive digital sound quality. You also have two ADBSSR 6-parameter envelope generators for VCF and VCA respectively. 64 sound programs can be stored and instantly selected from internal memory. POLY and UNISON key assign modes can be included in programs. The Program up function can operated by foot switch (or other trigger signal), so you can change sounds without taking your fingers off the keys. Portamento, white noise, and stereo chorus effects are all included. MIDI is standard so you can control the DW-6000 from other MIDI equipment (even a personal computer) or vice versa. A fast tape interface lets you store any amount of program data on cassettes. DWGS uses eight digitally encoded waveforms having the complex harmonic structures required for professional music. These wave-forms are actually simulations of real musical instrument sounds (violin, acoustic piano, electric piano, saxophone, etc.) created by additive harmonic synthesis. These are stored in two 256Kbit ROM chips. You have two DWGS oscillators so you can mix different waveforms to create even more complicated and unusual sounds. What's more, the DW-6000 uses analog VCA and VCF modules so you retain the familiar convenience of conventional synths. You get fast, predictable results without the annoyance of typical digital systems. Sound synthesis on the DW-6000 is straightforward, following basic synthesizer theory of pitch, tone color, and volume parameters.
